Perfect French Toast

8 thick slices of bread (preferably hearty white bread, about 1/2-inch thick)

1 1/2 cups whole milk, warmed

4 eggs

3 tablespoons light brown sugar

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (plus extra for skillet)

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Preparation:

Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Arrange the bread slices on a wire rack or baking sheet and toast in the oven for 7-8 minutes, flip, and continue baking for another 8 minutes. Allow to cool for 5 minutes post-baking.

In a large bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, sugar, cinnamon, melted butter, salt, and vanilla until well combined.

Pour this mixture into a large baking dish.

Soak each bread slice in the egg mixture for about 20 seconds per side, then transfer to a separate baking sheet to avoid sogginess.

Reduce oven temperature to 200°F (93°C), to keep the cooked French toast warm.

Heat a bit of butter in a skillet over low heat. Cook the soaked bread slices until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes on each side, then transfer to the oven on a baking sheet.

Continue this process until all the bread is cooked.

Serve the French toast warm with your choice of toppings like butter, powdered sugar, or maple syrup.

Delight in this enhanced French toast recipe and start your day with a touch of culinary history, making every breakfast an occasion to remember.
